To ensure the best possible results, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with our print specifications and guidelines. We do our best to provide you with detailed information while trying to avoid fancy print jargon. We understand that some of these specifications can be difficult to understand from time to time, so if you ever have a question, please don't hesitate to ask.
File Types
Single-page PDFs are best for each file (front, back, spot UV mask files, etc.). Our system currently doesn’t support PDFs with multiple pages. In addition to PDF files, we also accept JPEG & TIFF files with our automated file upload and preview system.
We can also accept AI and PSD files. Using these file types may delay the preview and proofs as they will need to be reviewed manually. If you ever need assistance in converting your files, please do not hesitate to ask.
Color
All files should be created and saved as CMYK. We can convert RGB files for you, but please be aware that the colors will not print the same as what you see on your screen. We do not print Pantone PMS Spot Colors.
Bleed and Crop Marks
Most products require a bleed of 0.0625" on all sides. A larger bleed area is fine, even though a warning will appear when you upload. Check the preview carefully to make sure everything is in the right place.
Crop marks are not needed, but you may include them if you prefer. Including crop marks may display a warning about your file dimensions.
Resolution
For projects created in programs like Photoshop or as a JPG or TIF file (raster images), Primoprint recommends a resolution of 300DPI.
Though vector (Illustrator, Corel Draw) and PDF files do not have a resolution, images or photos placed into your vector graphic or PDF should be 300DPI and converted to CMYK before being inserted into your design. Adding images to a vector graphic does not change their format.
Fonts
For best results, convert all fonts to outlines or embed the fonts in the PDF when saving or exporting.
Templates
Primoprint recommends using our provided layout templates for Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. You can download our templates here.
Borders
While Primoprint accepts borders on jobs, we strongly advise against using them on smaller pieces such as business cards and hang tags.
Cards can shift up to 1/16" during trimming, and having borders makes even the slightest shift more noticeable to the eye. While we can not avoid this potential shift, removing the borders helps minimize its appearance.
Rounded Corners
Primoprint offers both 1/4’’ (0.25’’) and 1/8’’ (0.125) round radius on some business card and postcard sizes. You have the option to select to have all four corners rounded or two opposite corners rounded. If you select rounded corners for your project, please ensure you use the correct template when creating your artwork so nothing is cut off in these areas.
File Inspection
Before we print your project, our Processing Team inspects each file to ensure it is print-ready. If they have any concerns, they will place your order on hold and contact you.
Please note, Processing will check the files' specs but does not proofread, question aesthetic design choices, verify QR codes, etc. Orders submitted with these errors are not subject to a refund or reprint once the order has entered production. Please ensure your files meet all of your design and copy needs before submission.
